March News

"Man's Best Friend": Proved to be a fun topic for Den 3 this month.  We shared our pet stories and did a critter care checkup where we learned to be kind to animals.  The boys painted dog neckerchief slides to resemble their own dogs.  Our Ethics In Action lesson was on "Kindness Counts" stressing responsibility to animals, both at home and in the wild.  To further our learning we visited the Inland Valley Humane Society, in Pomona.  We met their resident snakes and Guinea Pig.  We toured the dog, cat, and puppy wards.  We learned where the veterinarian cares for the injured and sick animals.  Unfortunately we also learned what happens to the animals the shelter is unable to place in homes.  All the boys took away the importance of having your pet spade or neutered and having proper identification on your animal.  The animal shelter was pleased with our cash donation and liquid laundry detergent, bleach, film, towels, pet treats, and pet toys.

Side note - This was a great field trip for Cub Scouts.  It was only 45 minutes long and close by.
